Ambassador Gergana Karadjova delivered Bulgaria’s statement during the debate of the Sixth Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly on the topic “The Rule of Law at the National and International Levels.”

Ambassador Gergana Karadjova participated in the General Debate of the Third Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, dedicated to the rights of children and the advancement of women. In her statement, Ambassador Karadjova underscored Bulgaria’s strong commitment to the protection of children’s rights and the advancement of gender equality, both at the national and international levels.

Ambassador Karadjova delivered a statement during the United Nations General Assembly debate on the use of the veto, focusing on the mandate of the Panel of Experts established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1929 in support of the Sanctions Committee established pursuant to resolution 1737.

In her statement during the United Nations Security Council’s Arria-formula meeting, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, underscored the direct relevance of freedom of navigation and maritime security to Bulgaria as a Black Sea country. “Bulgaria supports coordinated international efforts to protect commercial shipping and navigational rights, including the right of transit passage through straits used for international navigation, in full accordance with international law and UNCLOS,” Ambassador Karadjova stated.

The role of UN Women is more important than ever. We reaffirm our strong support for the Entity’s unique triple mandate – in the areas of normative support, coordination across the UN system, and operational support to countries.

At a United Nations Security Council meeting held under the Arria-formula, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s unwavering commitment to the UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. Bulgaria called for the protection of civilians, children and humanitarian personnel, unimpeded humanitarian access, and accountability for serious violations of international law.

Ambassador Gergana Karadjova, Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the UN, addressed the UNICEF Executive Board during its Second Regular Session as it opened on September 1st. In her statement, she reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong support for UNICEF and stressed the importance of protecting children’s rights in the digital age.

On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Bulgaria joined Denmark, President of the Security Council, together with 50 UN Member States, in reaffirming unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations participated in the Security Council’s open debate on the Council’s working methods and the implementation of Document S/2024/507.

Bulgaria joined Denmark and 54 other countries in a stakeout at the United Nations marking five years since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. This grim anniversary is an opportunity to once again draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian and human rights crisis in the country, particularly the grave situation facing Afghan women and girls.
