Bulgarian Short Film “What Is Bread For?” Presented at the 5th European Film Festival in Pakistan
The Bulgarian short film What Is Bread For? was featured in the programme of the 5th European Film Festival in Pakistan, held from 12 to 30 September 2026. The film’s participation was organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Islamabad, with the kind support of the State Institute for Culture at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.
The festival presented a diverse selection of European feature films, documentaries and short films, alongside a curated programme of Pakistani short films, live performances, activities for children and interactive events.
The Bulgarian film was selected for screenings in all three Pakistani cities hosting the festival: Islamabad, Sialkot and Hyderabad. Notably, it was chosen to open the festival programme in Islamabad at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), reflecting the organisers’ confidence in the Bulgarian production.
The screening in Islamabad attracted considerable audience interest and was met with an enthusiastic and emotional response from the audience.
Bulgaria’s participation contributed to promoting Bulgarian cinema among Pakistani audiences and strengthening cultural exchange between Bulgaria and Pakistan. The presentation of What Is Bread For? highlights the role of cinema in fostering intercultural dialogue and bringing contemporary Bulgarian artistic expression to new audiences.
